Thank you for your interest in becoming a Life Coach for a first-generation college student here at UF. Please see below for more information regarding the life coach role.
What does this role entail?
Life Coach Responsibilities:
• Commit to one student for an academic year
• Meet with assigned student once per month
o All assigned students will be first-generation 3rd or 4th year students
o First-generation students are the first in their family to attend college
o We want to focus on their post grad plans and to set them up for success after completing their undergraduate degree
• Set goals or assignments to encourage growth and development depending on what the student would like to gain
• Provide the opportunity for the student to complete a mock interview and to discuss areas of strength and areas of growth
Time Commitment:
• Meet once per month with assigned student
• Assign the student with a task or what you view as beneficial for the student to complete by a deadline (could be one assignment per semester, per year, etc)
o An assignment can be as simple as reach out to your professor, attend office hours, host a study group, or could be deeper such as visit the Career Connections Center and have your resume reviewed and discuss that process or providing different resources that you feel would benefit them
o Assignments are not required, but we do encourage interactions to benefit the student in the best possible way. It is up to your discretion on what you feel would help the student to improve and reach their goals
• Provide the opportunity for a mock interview
o You are able to conduct the mock interview if you see fit however, the Career Connections Center offers this service to students and this is a great option to provide. We ask that you speak with the student about their mock interview and to provide guidance prior to the interview.
