First-Generation Week
NOVEMBER 3 - 7
UF First-Gen Week is a series of events dedicated to celebrating and supporting first-generation college students—those whose parents did not complete a four-year college degree. This annual event includes workshops, networking opportunities, social events, and resources aimed at recognizing their achievements and addressing their unique challenges.
History of First-Gen Week
The University of Florida has long celebrated first-generation college students. In 2018, the Machen Florida Opportunity Scholars Program decided to elevate this national event. Each year on November 8, university units commemorate first-generation students on the anniversary of the 1965 Higher Education Act, which provided grants, loans, and resources to support their education.
