Apply to be an Advocate

As an advocate for First Generation students, you can be instrumental in providing the support First Generation students need to succeed in college. As an advocate, you are pledging to make yourself available for First Generation student who may reach out to you. Our advocates are excellent resources for students in their college to discuss school, plans for life after college, and possible careers in your field.

You already know the answers because of your experience in college and at UF. In fact, you probably have a wide network of colleagues that you could connect First Generation students to. Because as you know, First Generation students are first in their families to graduate so your guidance in post-college planning is so important!

Each time you meet with a first generation student, let us know how it goes. Please provide us feedback at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Q8w01Tj4IQxmQRDn_jBgyc-3c--eiNErpnFaiPnXoG4/viewform

I pledge to serve as a resource for First Generation students at the University of Florida. I will provide a welcoming environment to support their personal and career development as students and future professionals. I will respond to students in a timely manner and make myself available to assist in whatever way I can. If I am unable to fulfill my pledge due to my own personal or professional demands, I will at minimum respond to the student and direct them to someone who can support them.
